Things To Do In London In May 2018
Aside from the double whammy of 2 bank holidays, it’s practically the beginning of summer in London and we’ve got a roundup of some of the coolest things happening to do this coming month.
1. Shape of Light – from May 2nd
A huge new exhibition is coming to Tate Modern and it tells the intertwining story of photography and abstract art with new artwork made specifically for the exhibition. Tickets are starting at £16 and more info is available here.
2. Hit up Skylight – from 3rd May
Oh yeah, because who doesn’t love rooftop bars in London? Well, Skylight is back in Tobacco Quay and open for business again on the 3rd May – after work socials at the ready…
3. Arcadia Festival – 5th & 6th May
2 days, a giant robot spider, hanging acrobatics and flames – oh wait did we mention an insane line up? Olympic Park in Stratford faces a takeover for the first weekend in May with Leftfield and Rudimental taking the stage along with plenty of others. Grab tickets online here.
4. Kew Gardens Greenhouse - from 5th May
Finally launching after 5 years and a whopping £45mil investment, Kew Gardens greenhouse is due to re-open on the 5th May. With over 1,500 different plants to discover, spend an afternoon in the beauty of the West and take in the rest of the gardens including the tropical Palm House and treetop walkway.
5. Indulge in London Wine Week 14th-20th May
Yes, a week of WINE! With a whole bunch of events taking place across the city all week, 125 of London’s best wine bars are offering £5 taster flights with 3 different wines each. Grab a £10 wristband, some annual leave and wine-d down.
6. Explore the Museums of London at night between 16th-19th May
Let’s face it, working the 9-5 doesn’t always allow time for getting to know some culture and history very easily without the use of Google, so the annual event allows museums across the country to put on special late-night events. The Chocolate museum is said to be hosting cocoa-based games while the London Transport Museum celebrates the swinging sixties! Catch the full list of events here.
7. Spring into the Chelsea Flower Show between 22nd-26th May
Stop and smell the greenery. Maybe not so much if you’re suffering with hayfever, but the Chelsea Flower Show is back showcasing some of the world’s cleverest horticulturalists and brilliantly blooming gardens.
8. Gala Festival – 27th May
Spend your bank holiday having a one day multi-man rave at Peckham Rye Park – purely dedicated to disco, house and just some awesome party music. Simple, maybe not so much sophisticated, but one way to surely spend the long weekend!
9. Jam on Rye – 28th May

10. FSTVL – 25th–28th May
If Peckham isn’t your cup of tea, hit up the outskirts of London instead in Upminster (District Line) and celebrate with a 3.5day weekender of music, food, more music, and even more food with the option to camp out too this bank holiday.
